Aycliffe Radio is to broadcast a new show called REWIND to discuss the history of Newton Aycliffe and its people.
Producer Paul Mooney confirmed that the show will launch on 10 October and will be presented by Phil Hawkins and Amy Harrison.
“The ninety-minute show will be broadcast live every Wednesday at 6.30 pm,” said Paul who is a director of Aycliffe Radio and also produces the weekly soul music and politics shows.
The show’s research team includes Councillors John Clare and Arun Chandran as well as local history enthusiasts Martin Norris, Julie Fox Riddiough, Martin Jude and Steve Creaney.
“The purpose is to share history and explore some of the legends and myths,” said Paul who added that the team has access to the archives of Newton Press which date from 1948 when the new town was born.
“This is a priority show for Aycliffe Radio because it will benefit the community and will enable listeners to get more involved,” he said.
